Extracting more device information
- Hi,
How can I extract more info from the devices. I have been searcing the MDM documents online, and the web but I can't find it. I am sure that during my installation process I had more information about the Devices.
Thanks,
Stjani

If it's not listed in the Device Status Viewer - Management Objects Viewer then you'll not be able to collect this information using a new Inventory Item. That means you'll not be able to view it with the MDM console. Speak to your OEM Device Vendor about this issue, it seems to be a device issue. Obviously some information is device specific, e.g. Windows Mobile Classic isn't going to have phone information !

- Anything particular you had in mind? You cannot extend the amount of information collected in the "Device info"-panel, and this info is gathered through an OMA DM query.
You can collect some other info through pushing out group policies, and cab files. Maybe do posts back to a database or something. It kinda depends on what info it is you are looking for, and if you want it only for inventory purposes, or process actions based on the findings. - Hi,
in the All Managed Devices window there are panels Device Status - Device History - Genral Information - Application Settings ......... Installed Software - File Information
I would like to see some info there like I can see in Device History. - Ok, is there any info at all in the "File Information"-pane, or is it just partial info? (I'm not in the vicinity of a server right now so I cannot remember off the top of my head exactly what is collected here.)
I've seen sometimes that I have had to run "Connect Now" several times, and hit F5 to get all info. An issue is that collecting all the device info takes an amount of traffic since OMA DM can send a lot of data. This means that sometimes the collection will timeout, and you will be presented with whatever got collected before the timeout. I don't know of any way around this - possibly try connecting through WLAN instead of 3G...
I've also seen issues with some devices not presenting all info, and I guess that could be ROM-specific. You can however view on the device what will be sent back to the server if you use "Device Status Viewer", and browse the DM Objects directly. If it's missing there you're not going to get it server side either. And try with a couple different devices, including emulator, and check if there's any differences between them what is collected. - You can create new custom inventory items by using the Device Inventory Powershell commands. You can extract and display any item value from the (OMA DM) tree. Don’t worry if you’re not best friends with the OMA DM tree structure, the Device History Panel is a great help.
If you look in the Device History Panel you will see the OMA DM tree location in the first column. You can create a custom Inventory items using the information in the Device History Panel as a template.
Since the registry is within the OMADM tree, you can also query registry entries. This is very cool if you have a custom Line Of Business registry settings that you want to query.
The process is documented very will in the New-MDMInventoryItem TechNet document. So start there.

Airloom - OK,
It is not the traffic, I only have 2 mobiles enrolled. It could be that the device is not presenting info. I've checked the DM objects from the "Device status viewer" and there is a lot missing there. I am using Samsung mobile now, I was using HTC before.
I will definitely look int New-MDMInventoryItem.
