We do now support SQL Server 2008 with both the RTM and SP1 versions of Configuration Manager :-)

However, officially yet, we don't support the R2 features with SQL Server 2008. That testing is still under way.

SQL Server 2008 is now supported on Configuration Manager 2007 RTM and SP1

System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (RTM and SP1) now supports the use of SQL Server 2008 as a site database.  In order to upgrade a site-server database to SQL 2008 there are 2 hot fixes required:

    ·          ConfigMgr 2007 RTM customers must apply hot fix KB955229

    ·          ConfigMgr 2007 SP1 customers must apply hot fix KB955262

The following are requirements when performing a clean install on a SQL Server 2008 database:

    ·          A clean install of ConfigMgr 2007 RTM on a SQL Server 2008 database is not supported.  You must first install SQL Server 2005, upgrade to SQL Server 2008 and then apply hot fix KB955229

    ·          A clean install of ConfigMgr 2007 SP1 on a SQL Server 2008 database is supported, but should apply hot fix KB955262

We do now support SQL Server 2008 with both the RTM and SP1 versions of Configuration Manager :-)

SCCM 2007 SP1 does not work with SQL 2008 but I have successfully installed SCCM 2007 R2 with SQL 2008

Have there been any updates to this yet or is the above information still the latest?

Wally, is this published anywhere else on Microsoft's site?

Currently this now out-dated information is still posted on TechNet...http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb694113.aspx

    Site Database Server Prerequisites

Configuration Manager 2007 primary sites require access to a SQL Server database to host the site database. The site database can be hosted on a SQL Server instance installed on the same server as the primary site, on a remote computer, or on a virtual SQL Server cluster instance. The following conditions apply:

    • SQL Server 2005, Service Pack 2 is the only version of SQL Server supported for hosting the Configuration Manager 2007 site database.
    • SQL Server 2005 Express is not a supported SQL Server 2005 version for hosting the Configuration Manager 2007 site database.
    • The SQL database service is the only SQL Server component required to be installed to host the site database.

Documentation does not get immediately updated. I've heard that the next doc drop is not until December.

So yes, as far as I know the information above is the most current. What is it that you are looking for exactly?

I'm just looking for the official word that SCCM 2007 supports SQL 2008 that I can present to management.  I will just reference your post.  Thanks for getting back with me.

I'm not entirely sure why we only updated the Supported Configurations documentation to state we support Windows Server 2008, but not to reflect SQL Server 2008. I know the support came quite awhile apart, but seems to be a gap to me.

Sorry that we haven't done so :-(

Based on the following statement, I'm going to assume that it is supported with the applied hotfix:

    "2
When SQL Server 2008 is used to host the site database for a Configuration Manager 2007 R2 installation, it is recommended that you install the update described in Microsoft article ID 957576 located at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=134675."

No, it is not. We do now support Configuration Manager 2007 R2 with SQL Server 2008.

Yes, SQL Server 2008 supports the same features for Configuration Manager as SQL Server 2005 SP2.

The Hotfix page for  KB955262 does not allow request any longer. Where do people get it, as the link states no public fixes for it are available.

    Thanks

Yes, according to the download section in premier.microsoft.com.
Edit: I just installed 969529 on a brand new ConfigMgr site and it also solved the issue that the drivers node was not displayed.

You know if you would have posted this as a new thread in the proper forum (such as General or Setup/Deployment) people might have gotten on it earlier :-)

Not sure how this is an announcement :-)

But yes, 969529 replaces 955262. The KBs are being updated to reflect that.

    Hi Wally,

what can I do if I installed SCCM R2 and forgot to install KB969529 first?
The 969529 installer tells me that this is the wrong build number. I assume 969529 can only update SP1 but not R2?
Please don't tell me to install SP2 as i have a german version and SP2 is not yet available in german.

    Thanks,
      Dieter

    Hi,

in the meantime i could successfully resolve this issue.
The "wrong build number" referred to the Windows Version (not SCCM), as I was installing on Server 2008 R2.
So better wait for SCCM SP2, as 969529 cannot be installed on Server 2008 R2. (I know this is not fully supported...)
I manually replaced the files and executed the SQL script, works like a charm.

And just so everyone knows, we *do not* support Windows Server 2008 R2 as a site system with Configuration Manager 2007 RTM or SP1. It is only supported as of SP2.
