    Hi,

    Sometime ago we tryed to migrate rom exchnage 2003 to exchange 2007. We succesfully installed an Exchange 2007 server, and finally uninstalled it for other reasons, and continued working with our exchange 2003 servers correctly.

    Now I am trying to install an Exchange 2007 server to migrate the whole organisation. The error I am having is when I try to execute setup.com /PrepareSchema . The error message I get happend to be when it tryes to extend Active Directory Schema. I suppose this is because it worked the first time we installed an exchange 2007 server and there is no need to execute it again.

    The point is that when I try to find the Exchange Administrative Group, I cannot find it, I just find the Administrative group that works with Exchange 2003 (First Administrative group). My fear is that as I do not have that administrative group, I am not sure if coexistence with exchange 2003 will work.

    Do you think I can go on and try to install the new Exchange 2007 Server.

    Please post error messages and notifications you receive when running the /Prepare switches.

    this is the message:

    I am sorry but is in english, the error prompt in the last part Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server, Updating legacy permissions and it says something like System cannot find specified file

    Check out this other issue that seems similar.  It appears that the server you are running the /prepare on does not have the AD Tools installed.

    Pls confirm that the AD Tools are installed as Russ mentioned - that is needed to suck up the schema changes.

    If you previously had Exchange 2007 RTM installed, and now you are using SP3 media, then that will need schema to be extended to apply the latest changes/updates. 

    can you confirm that you have read this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288907(v=EXCHG.80).aspx and are following that?

    I don't see that you are running the prepare legacy permissions switch for example.  That will not cause this to fail, but I'm curious as to why you are doing /PS  explicitly and not doing /PL before it  :)

    Please note that you will need to install SP3 onto the Exchange 2003 server - that is the only version currently supported http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2012/03/26/exchange-2007-service-pack-3-is-required.aspx

    hi,

    thank you for your posts.

    I do not get an of what Active Directory Tools are, Do you mean I need to install AD DS? if not, where do I find those AD tools?

    I have executed setup.com /PrepareLegacyExchangePermissions and it run correctly, so next step seems to be setup.com /PS (where I get the error)

    ServerManagerCmd -i RSAT-ADDS

    will install the AD Tools.

    hi,

    I have installed AD DS tools and download Exhcnage 2007 SP3, and it worked, don't know if it worked for the first reason, the second one or a combination of both.

    Now I will go on migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.
