Exchange 2010 Lockup's in ESX4.0

Hi All,
I've been having a strange problem lately at a clients site...One 2010 Server (Virtual) running off a SAS IBM DS3524. I've given it 4vcpus and 16Gb of Memory.
Randomly, everything will lock on it and the CPU Consumption goes to max on all CPU's. The only way to restore is power off, re-start in Safe Mode with Networking and then reboot back into normal operation.
There is nothing in the logs regarding the error, it just stops. I'm at a loss to diagnose this, but it seems related to Exchange Services. I don't think it's resource constrained, there are only 50 mailboxes on it.
Does anyone have any hints on troubleshooting this?

I think you can Check in the VMware itself.
Which Service peaked up ,
Do we have any Disc Errors in System Logs ?
How users are conneced ? online or Cache ?
What anti virus you using ?
Any Recent Changes ?

27. února 2012 19:03Hi, It's no specific error, just CPU going to 100%. No disk errors, between 30-40 users connected, most MS clients are cached. NOD32 is our A/V no recent changes either.

Hello,
You can use the performance monitor to check the status of the server:
Perfwiz for Exchange 2010
http://blogs.technet.com/b/mikelag/archive/2010/01/11/perfwiz-for-exchange-2010.aspx
Then compare with the standard performance counters to local the root cause of the performance issue.

Hi Dave,
We need to have it run as long as , Untill the issue reoccurs.
So that we can analyze with that data.
Happy that your server is stable for last 4 days

Ok, so it finally locked up!
I can see in the performance counter that just stopped at 8:AM this morning. The counter has a lot of information. What is the best way to save and post here?
