You need to install Lync server on a member server of your domain, not a domain controller.  If this is your only DC in your environment, then you cannot demote it.  I would suggest installing a new server and join it to your domain, and do not promote it to a domain controller.  You will be fine after that.

    Hi

You need to install a new HW or virtual server with a "clean OS on it. Join it to your domain as a member server (Not as a new DC).

Patch the server, reboot and then start your Lync server installation.

    Hi,

The Lync server 2010 can not install on the machine which is a Domain Controller Server. If the machine is not a DC server but you still get this error, maybe the machine computer name is in the Domain Controller folder of AD. Please check it. If still can not work, please reinstall the OS of the machine.

    thanks all

Regarding Sean_Xiao answer ,,, need to know how can I check whether that my machine is in the domain controller folder of AD

I follow the steps in this tutorial
    http://imaucblog.com/archive/2010/09/15/step-by-step-microsoft-lync-2010-consolidated-standard-server-install-guide/

can anyone tell me what I am missing before follow that tutorial

all what I did are the following steps:

        install window server 2008
install lync server as stated in that tutorial

I think there is something missing in the first step ...may be in this step I have to install  the member  sever first

I will be so thankful if you kindly list the correct steps for me

    thanks in advance

    Hi,

What my mean is the AD Domain Controller OU.

If you Lync Server OS is windows Server 2008, PLease make sure you have installed the following software before you install Lync server:

    thanks again

I ran the planning tool and I got the following  outputs:

    Deployment steps:

    • prepare active directory
    • deploy Lync server 2010 standerd edition
    • Deplying archiving server
    • deploy clients and devices

    and the hardware configuration

    • standard edition server
    • archiving server
    • archiving SQL Data Base

now my question in what step I have to install the member server

    thanks

    Dear Amalmoodle

According to http://imaucblog.com/archive/2010/09/15/step-by-step-microsoft-lync-2010-consolidated-standard-server-install-guide/ it already stated

"Add to your domain (the installation will fail when attempting to deploy on a DC - see comments below) and login as domain admin or equivalent"

For reasons not to install at DC, you can refer to the following link

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ocsvoice/thread/ca023da8-3f92-4cc0-bba7-ac8f85ccf68e

    Hi amalmoodle,

First you have to run the topology builder to configure your infrastructure. Then you have to run "Prepare the first Standard Edition Server" on the upper right of the deployment wizzard if you have prepare the forest and the Domain before. You should also be a meber of the Domain admins and the RTCUniversalAdmins to deploy the topology, afetr you have installed the CMS database with the "Prepare the first Standard Edition Server"

Check the prequisites for the lync FE Server with the Lync deployment guide from this link

I think  this is the solution:

I need to install another windows server in VM to be as a member server then connect this server to the domain after that I will install Lync server on the VM

please correct me if I am wrong??

    thanks

Yes you need a additional meberserver for the Lync 2010 Standard Server.

If, you have prepare AD Schema, forest, Domain you can install all prequissites on this Server, than create the topology, then run prepare the first Server..., then deploy the topology.
