Office Pro Plus 2010 install on Remot Desktop Services KMS activations
-
4. května 2012 23:31I haven't seen this question asked. I am trying to deploy Office 2010 Pro Plus on a Remote Desktop Server (server 2008 R2) I have successfully installed a KMS server on another server and activated it with our Office 2010 Volume License KMS key. I then administratively installed Office 2010 on the RDS server and launched Office, this generated a single activation request on the KMS server. I then simultaneously launched Office on 5 RDS clients expecting each launch to generate a KMS license request. But the activation count on the KMS server remains at 1. This is keeping the KMS server from activating with MS. Should each user launch of Office in an RDS session generate a KMS request or is it only one request per RDS server?

Hi,
because you only install Office once on a computer, KMS will not apply to each RDS session (an RDS host is one Office installation, not one per RDS session).
Also, there is specific guidance for Office on RDS:

Thank you,
That clarifies the issue for me. I will have to pick 4 desktops to install office 10 on to kick off the activation. From what I read it sounded like KMS was the better alternative for RDS as using the MAK key would require a manual process for each RDS session. Every thing else in the install went fine, and the information from the technet site was valuable for my install.
