Sharepoint site take long time to be opened

Hello there,
I have a question , if i open the internet and typr the url of sharepoint intranet site it will take long time to be opened , is that because i use SSL authentication and redirect page or sharepoint site by it self have to take some time to be ready to open ?
And How can i make it open fast ?
Please any help ?

Does this issue occur every time you log in to SharePoint, or only the first time that you log in that day.
If the latter is the case, you could try using a warmup script, such as SPWakeUp (http://spwakeup.codeplex.com/).

Hi,
this happens because IIS has to compile the code and pages to display. After that it gets cached, that's why subsequent requests don't take as long. You can try a server "warm up" script: http://blogs.msdn.com/joelo/archive/2006/08/13/697044.aspx

If you are not aware of the time taken in SSL authentication and page redirection, you can make use of the fiddler timeline view.
