Sharepoint 2010 - Allow user to edit email settings

Hi
I followed the good post at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sk/sharepoint2010setup/thread/085afad3-9da2-4905-bb3b-9ef2181141e1 on this topic, but find when i (users) go to their "My Settings" they can't edit the email address. Initially the first time visiting "My Settings" there is an Edit hyperlink, which then provides no fields to edit. After visiting "My profile" and then you go back, the "Edit" has gone and "My Alerts" is there.
I need to note that our AD is old and out of date with most people not having an email address in it, thus by default, Sharepoint does not fill this out correctly.
When i manually edit myself under Admin "manage User Profiles" i won, but i want users to be able to update this themselves.
>> Suggestions on what the issue might be ?
Below is a screen shot of the "manage User Properties" field. Thanks- Upravený Greg B Roberts 2. května 2012 7:49

Hi,
According to your description, please check if you have set up my site. If not, the user has to manage their profile information via their My Sites link. The link at My Settings in this configuration is read-only.
Please enable my site, then check the result.
For more information about my site and user profile, see

Rock
The first URL is a lot of text and covers many topics, and the 2nd was a good reference point.
In fact your text was the one that did it, using MySite to adjust the profile.
Thanks
