Username Change and Sharing - Win 7 and XP

  I installed Win 7 Pro (New install) one of my office machines that functions as a file server for all other machines in network. When I created the user account I "fat fingered" the username without realizing. I then set up file sharing (turning public off and asking for password logon) and attempted to access the shared file from several of the other machines (all on XP Pro using a WorkGroup to share prior to this upgrade).

  Nothing worked until I "fat fingered" the username from an XP machine and I realized my mistake. I then used UAC to change the account name on the 7 machine to the correct one.

  But when I go into the folder sharing control - it only shows the old username and claims it cannot find the new username when i try to add new user - even though the new name is how I log into the "7" machine and what shows on the UAC.

  AND - when I am prompted for the Usrnm/Psswrd from the XP machines - I have to use the old account name to connect.

  To flush the old name from the 7 system, I uninstalled the network card and let 7 reinstall and set up sharing again but the only thing that I can see when I go back to the shared folder and try to correct the usename (for sharing) is the old username.

  How do I flush out old (wrong) username from file sharing and gain access to the new name so my users will not have to "learn another workaround?"

  AND

  What other challenges might I be looking at since I really want to continue to use the new username?

  BTW - spent considerable time looking for something similar in the forums but no issue match.
