XP Mode Full screen Doesn't minimize

Hello,
I am having an intermittent problem with using XP mode. When I maximize the screen, and then try to minimize it, it stays open in full screen mode. If I restore the window to it's normal size and then minimize it, it works fine. I have to hibernate the session and then restore it for it to work properly again. I am using Windows Virtual PC.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
How do you minimize XP Mode when it is full screen?
Do you mean that you click “switch to your computer desktop” and it will not work?

I am having the same problem. The minimization will work OK for a while then just blink quickly and return to full screen. I am using "switch to your computer desktop".Hi,

I am also having this problem, however I've discovered that it depends what application you have open in Windows 7 (i.e. in the current window / working on) when you want to switch back (i.e. clicking on the "switch to your computer desktop" icon).
I have found that if I am using Excel, it won't switch back, however if I have another application in the current window / I'm working working on it's fine. Have tested this so far when using Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Chrome, Fileziller, Firefox & Skype and when I switch to Windows XP Mode whilst working in these applications, I can return successfully. So far it appears not to like when I swict to XP mode from Excel (there may be other Apps of course).
Another thing I've found is if I can't minimize from Windows XP Mode then if I click on the minimize icon (hold the click down) and at the same time press F1 (which brings up Help) my bottom icons within my Windows 7 session appear thereby allowing me to switch back this way. Not ideal I know, but a workround for me which is better than having to Exit Full Screen Mode in my Windows XP Mode session.

15. března 2011 12:52I am seeing the same. When Excel is the active window in the host OS when I switch to a Virtual PC, I cannot minimize the Virtual PC. I have not seen this with any other application. If I restore the VPC down to a windowed mode and then minimize the Excel window and then restore the VPC to full screen I am able to minimize the VPC successfully.

I am now having this problem too - it first showed itself a couple of days ago. It is disappointing that no answer has been posted by Microsoft and this "reply" is just to add to the list of afflicted users as I have not found a solution.

I have found the "cause" and the "solution" though I have not taken the time to pinpoint it.
I was changing my visual performance settings with it running. I unchecked several features from previously having all of them enabled. I started getting this behavior.
I set to let windows choose for me, enabled thumbnails saving (cause it didn't recommend it) and had all checked.
It no longer force maximizes again.
I can't say WHAT I had unchecked, but I know it did have the transparency on my task bar disabled from it as well as the other windows I had open in win7.
Hope this helps someone.

As previously reported, I was having the same problem back in May but it disappeared a few weeks later as mysteriously as it had started. I had assumed that a Windows Update had fixed it (and might have originally caused it too). I have not changed any visual performance settings (either before May or since) but, apart from therefore being a bit doubtful that TKFOREVERER really has found the "cause" and "solution", I cannot add anything useful.

Same here :(
With Excel 2010 as the active window on the Windows 7 desktop, I can't minimize the XP Mode window.
When able to return to Windows 7, the XP Mode RDP window icon is flashing in the taskbar.
This is, to say the least, very annoying when trying to move/copy data between the two.
I'm using XP Mode to support our clients using VPN/RDP. The reason for using XP Mode is that 7 BSOD's frequently when disconnecting PPTP VPN's.
Hope this gets fixed.

24. února 2012 18:51I've been having this same problem. Windows XP Mode will not minimize easily. Excel being active does not seem to make the difference. What I would do is click minimize in XP Mode and then quickly click elsewhere on the screen and that seemed to do it after a couple of tries. What I now found that works better -- as someone else mentioned -- is clicking the restore icon -- which reduces the window size without fail. Then I am able to minimize it without a problem. Unfortunately, it then takes almost a minute to restore to full size with all icons. But at least I'm not scrambling around the screen videogame style trying to click quickly enough to get back to OS 7.

I confirm the same problem switching between Excel and XP Mode.
Workaround (inspired by kevpat): click and hold down the minimize button on XP Mode while pressing Alt+Tab to task switch as normal in Windows 7.

This had bugged me for some time. Go in the Performance Information and Tools control panel, select "Adjust visual effects", uncheck "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing", click apply.
However, the problem returned, but my unchecking and rechecking whatever was previously checked then the problem went away again. It will probably come back again so the root cause remains undetermined and the workaround/fix is likely temporary.

At about the same time one of our users started having this problem, she also noticed that the XP Mode session was locked each time she tried to do things to get it to minimize or maximize.
I found the thread below about resizing triggering a lock and deleting the credentials on the XP Mode vm as suggested in that thread so far has fixed both problems for her: no locking the session and the minimize is working again too.
http://superuser.com/questions/86158/windows-7-xp-mode-resizing-triggering-lock
Her domain password had expired a few weeks ago and the XP Mode vm probably still had that password saved. Puting in the new password and checking the Save password button again seems to have saved the new one. Maybe it still tries to lock due to the resize but having the correct password saved lets it re-log back in automatically.
Let me know if this seems to fix it for others.

Same for me. Anyone from MSFT care to propose a reason and solution?
