Cannot Reconnect to Terminal Server Sessions on 2008
- Hi,
Can anyone confirm if the following behavior of 2008 Terminal Server is intentional or a bug:
I configure a 2008 Terminal Server to allow 5 maximum sessions. Then I create 5 sessions using Remote Desktop Client and disconnect each of them. Now I am unable to re-connect to either of the sessions. The Remote Desktop gets disconnected even before it can present the login screen ?. The similar thing works with 2003 Terminal Server, where I can reconnect, as long as I don't have 5 ACTIVE sessions.
P.S. I did not come across any configuration setting through Terminal Services Configuration program which might affect this behavior.
Server OS : Terminal Server 2008
Client Machine: Windows XP SP2
RDP Client Version: 5.1
The behavior is same using RDP client shipped with Vista.

- Thanks for your patience. Could you please try again with Windows Server 2008 SP2?
If you don't want to upgrade to SP2, you can use http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/968680.- Označen jako odpověďClarence Dang - MSFTMSFT, Moderátor2. července 2009 20:51

- Have you tried setting up the session broker?
- I would say check registry settings - the registry key that hold the temp license.
But the best would be to check Event Log on the W2008 server and see what happens when a user tries to connect - you will see the full explanation.
Citrix Technology Professional, PubForum Founder http://www.pubforum.net - I believe this is a bug with Server 2008. Microsoft is aware of this issue and is investigating it.
- I was so curious that I recreated the environment and can only confirm - even all the 5 sessions are in Disconnected mode it wont even come to the Login Screen. And it doesn't matter if the credentials are saved or not.
Citrix Technology Professional, PubForum Founder http://www.pubforum.net - Alex,
I couldn't see anything interesting in the Event Viewer.
Is there an official release note/technote or a Bug ID explaining this ?. I have not really come across one.
- Hi Ankur,
I could not find anything in event log on myself too. not on the host not on the pc.
I did not knew about the bug, but I guess the guys from MS already working on it.
Citrix Technology Professional, PubForum Founder http://www.pubforum.net - Is it a bug only if you limit the number of sessions or does it do with unlimited as well?
- Happens only when I limit the sessions. Infact it occurs when the active + disconnected sessions equals the configured limit.
- Is their any KB article or release note item or any official communication from microsoft on this?
