simple mirror drive question...HELP
simple mirror drive question...HELP
- Server 2003, simple mirror, primary disk failed. I disconnected the old and plugged the IDE primary to the second drive, booted up OK. Shutdown, connected a new drive on the IDE secondary, booted up. I want to setup the mirror again, but I don't know how....I set the new secondary disk as dynamic. and my options on the primary disk are: remove mirror, or reactivate volume, what should I do to resetup the mirror many thanks for help.

- Hello ramonpierce,
To recover the data in the mirrored volume, we may need to do as followed.
1. right-click on the mirrored volume on the primary disk and select Remove Mirror
2. When the dialog box pops up, select the Miss one, and then click OK to revome.
Please note: By doing this, the operation system will break the mirror between the healthy disk and the failed disk, and this would not cause data lose.
3. Afterwards, you will see the volume replica (which is previously a replica of the mirror volume)shows as simple volume on the healthy disk.
4. Then please plug a new hard drive onto the server, and then iniliaze the new disk and convert it into dynamic disk.
5. Then you can right-click on the simple volume on that healthy disk, and select Add Mirror...
6. when it pops up, select the new-added disk as the other part of the new mirror, Click Add Mirror.
7. The operation system should re-synchronize the information and re-establish the mirror volume.
8. You can also remove that failed disk in the Disk Management console.
Hope it helps.
