Two-way backups of DPMDB by two DPM servers - DPM 2010 - Supported config?

    Frage

  • DPM Server A
-Maintains it own set of long/short term protection groups of servers only backed up by this server
-This server backs up the DPM database of DPM Server B
-This server does not protect the Protected servers of DPM Server B

-This server maintains a BMR backup of OS/Program files for DPM Server B

    DPM Server B
-Maintains it own set of long/short term protection groups of servers only backed up by this server
-This server backs up the DPM database of DPM Server A
-This server does not protect the Protected servers of DPM Server A

-This server maintains a BMR backup of OS/Program files for DPM Server A

This technet article which says applies to DPM 2007 appears to conflict with this.

Is this a normal and supported scenario with DPM2010?  The following graphic seems to indicate the only scenario is protection of Server A by Server B. I realize the following graphic addresses a real DR setup but I am interested in two way DPM SQL protection only.

  • Hi Malunx,

In this Article : "A DPM server can back up other DPM servers. A DPM server that protects data sources directly is called the primary DPM server. A DPM server that protects other DPM servers is called the secondary DPM server. The secondary DPM server can protect both the databases and the replicas on the primary DPM server. A DPM server can provide both secondary protection for another DPM server and primary protection for data sources."

    In your case :

DPM1 could be Secondary DPM of DPM2 DPMDB

DPM2 could be Secondary DPM of DPM1 DPMDB
