WHERE is all the DPM 2012 documentation?!!

    Frage

  • Useless sites:

    Microsoft DPM Team Blog -

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/

No current post-beta information! Where is the "DPM 2012 is RELEASED, here are a COMPLETE description of all feature improvements!"

    Microsoft DPM Technet Site -

    http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh758173

Full of empty pages, 2-3 lines of useless text or broken links!

    I'm disappointed and frustrated.

Here are my current non-researchable issues:

SQL cluster backup. 2008 R2. What can be done and what can't be done. I want to be able to do a complete bare metal recovery.

Bare metal recovery procedure in it self.

Sharepoint 2010 farm consisting of 3 front-end, 3 applications servers and mentioned SQL cluster. What are the improvements in DPM 2012. What can be done and what can't be done.

Looking forward to someone at MS speaking up!

It's the best technical reference I've seen so far. More information here than on Technet and other sites.

  • Hi Putelutt,

I completely understand. I wondered the same thing when I started working with DPM. I did find TechNet useful in most areas.

I used a lot of blogs of the DPM MVP's and others in the DPM community. You will find real world experiences on them that you wont find in TechNet documentation. Keep an eye on the new System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager Survival Guide here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/11867.system-center-2012-data-protection-manager-survival-guide-en-us.aspx . This will be built out with links to DPM related blogs and more over time. You can find links to System Center blogs here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/11504.how-to-participate-in-the-system-center-community-en-us.aspx. That is for System Center overall but you will find DPM related blogs and resources there as well.

  • I started working with DPM in 2010.

The survival guide is mainly just a collection of links into the technet site. Save space and keep just one of them, no need for a index into the technet dpm site :D It already got a contentlist when you get there :P

You had one good link on your site which was this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29698

    Hi Putelutt,

Glad you found that document. FYI... The community will be building out the survival guide with links to other DPM resources beyond the TechNet articles. The guid was just started recently. Keep an eye on it for the future.
