SCCM Domain Change
SCCM Domain Change
- My company went through a merger about 1 1/2 years ago and we are now moving each legacy domain into a new, single domain. I have SCCM 2007 in place in my location and need to move it to the new domain. Is there any documentation out there that can help me with this task or am I going to need to uninstall everything and recreate my setup from scratch?
Thanks!

- There is no move of a site server from one domain to another (regardless of the same forest). You would need to uninstall and then reinstall the site server. Sorry.

- New forrest? I don't know of a way to "move" it but you could add a new site into the hierarchy, let everything poplulate from one to the other then break the parent/child relationship. At least I think that might work. I could be wrong.

- Is this documented anywhere? I trust that you are right, but I can't just tell my boss that "Wally Mead on the forum" said so.
Thanks for your help!
Chris I can't just tell my boss that "Wally Mead on the forum" said so.
Your boss must not know who Wally Mead is. If I were your boss and you said that I would say, "Oh okay then it must be true" LOL
tell your boss, "My contacts on the SCCM Development team tell me this is not possible"

- Actually, you can. Wally and ConfigMgr/SMS are inseparable. Seriously.
Notice that Wally owns this forum also.

Chris - Here's the specific text John is referring to (thanks John):
It is not supported to change the domain membership or computer name for a Configuration Manager 2007 site system after it is installed.
Wally Mead - Wally, what if I use DNS Alias. Example. I have server1.domain1.com running SCCM. If move the server to domain2 and then I alias it at DNS level so that server1.domain1.com and server1.domain2.com will resolve to same IP address.. will that work? (Server name and IP address remaining same.. only Domain changing)
- As Wally stated "It is not supported to change the domain membership or computer name for a Configuration Manager 2007 site system after it is installed." there are no what if's that can make it supported.

- No, you cannot change the NetBIOS domain that our site is installed it. This is documented, and there is no workaround.

- I'm faced with having to change domain names as as well, and I have a follow up question (hope this thread isn't too old). While I understand that I'll need to set up a new site server, is there any configuration that I can trasnfer from the original site to the new one, and are there any articles that outline the process?
