I am interested to hear from anyone who has a shifted from BES from an Activesync only deployment or at the least using a good number of AS devices along with Blackberry. We are supporting about 140 blackberries but only around 50 activesync devices...which isnt a lot in comparison to some companies, but as we shift towards exchange 2010 I would like to see us move more towards Activesync devices and reduce some headaches.

I am looking for some solidly documented business case scenario's to support this and even first hand experience from other admins who have moved one way or another and their feelings.

Where I work we use both Blackberry and AS devices. The easiest thing I can think of is the increased IOPS requirments for Blackberry devices, 3.75 IOPS vs the AS of .75. Also from a cost perspective you don't have to pay the blackbery license if you go all Active Sync since that is built into Exchange.

ActiveSync is fast becoming the default email syncing protocol. Windows Phone, Nokia, Android, iPhone, Blackberry (AstraSync) . Blackberry requires additional hardware and licensing to function. BES has a one device policy, ActiveSync doesn't. Exchange ActiveSync scales easily, especially with Exchange 2010 DAG. The increased IOPS that Mark refers too has major impact for large customers. One of my customers had to upgrade their SAN to cope with the increased BES traffic.
