WSUS configuration question

    Frage

  • Hi,

this may be a noob question, but why can't I carryout some actions on the Master/upsteam server that I can on my replica server? For example, I can't change computer membership on the primary server, but I can on the replica server?

Is this due to some configuration change within my company or is this normal?

    Some details:

We have 3 WSUS servers, 1 Master and 2 replica.

The master is based in the US, a long with 1 replica, the other replica is in Europe. I have a feeling that our European servers point to the European WSUS server and our US based servers point to the US based WSUS server.

I still don't understand why I can't change computer group membership on the master server?

    Thanks.

Because one is the upstream (master) server and the other is a replica server and they're not the same thing, therefore they don't have the same functions. :-)

Correct. Computer membership is a function of the *computer* that is reporting to the WSUS server. The replica server "owns" the computer records of its clients and that's where you manage those group memberships.
