Answered Problems with Kaspersky Update

    Since 3/30/2112, Kaspersky Antivirus Engine has not updated,  version 8.1.8.79 definition 30.3.2012.8:8:0. The event log shows:
       Microsoft Forefront Protection encountered an error while performing a scan engine update.
          Scan Engine: Kaspersky
          Error Code: 0x80004005

    The system has been running for about 2 years without problems.

    Hi,

    Check the following folders for a file named storage520.dat and delete it if it exists, then try a manual update:

    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kaspersky SDK\
    • C:\ProgramData\Kaspersky SDK\

    If this doesn't work check the programlog.txt inside your installation directory for more details.

    I had the same problem start last week and deleting the Kaspersky SDK folders in the above locations fixed the issue for me.
