800706BE error while instaling Vista's SP2
- Hi,
I'm unable to install Vista SP2. After several attempts, the result is a error code 800706BE. I try stopping the AVG services but to no avail. Any suggestions?

-Sampath - Hi There,
Please try the following steps to fix the problem
1) Boot from the Vista DVD and select “Repair your computer” from the Installation screen.
2) Do a System restore from the System recovery options (this should help you to login back as an Administrator if the password got changed due to installation of Vista Service pack 2).
3) Try to login with your user account (Admin account).
4) Type cmd in Start search and Run it as Administrator .
5) Run SFC /SCANNOW keeping the Vista DVD in the drive.
6) Install Vista Service Pack 2 from the standalone package that you have downloaded and saved.
If you are still facing problem, lets chat or email me at mary.claire@livecom

- Hi,
I've followed your set of instructions and - sadly - it didn't work.
I run the sfc /scannow and reporting no errors. I uninstalled my av, deactivated the UAC and Defender (and messengers et al) and run the HP Health Checker. I've been trying to install the SP2 thru Windows Update but this last time I downloaded the multilang full version (downloaded yesterday). The result was the same as in my n-th previous attempts.
It starts normally but then the progress bar advances very fast (it takes less than 2 min.) and stays in the 100% for a long time (for ever?). I see fast disk activity for some 30 min or more but eventually it also stops.
In any case, the computer stayed all night on its own but nothing changed (the SP2 install window open with the progress bar on 100%). When I made the shut down it said that it was installing some updates but when restarted it showed SP1 only.
Any hope or only a windows recovery will do it? (I really hope not because I have installed work specific software of difficult recover)
Thanks - please try the below tool which does repair previous updates installed. Generally previously installed updates causes such errors

hope this helps
