    This is the message I get when I try to in stall update.  Which I think is causing my portable device not to be detected as well.

    Interesting, I have the exact same problem with Windows update and portable device.  Since installing Zune software I have lost antivirus software capabilities, Windows Update capbilities, and Restore/back capabilities.

    Did you ever find a solution?
