Error with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 80070645
- Hi to all,
I really hope someone can help solve this annoying little problem ........ for several weeks now I have been trying to install (through Windows automatic updates) Service Pack 1 for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and all I keep getting is 'Code 80070645 Windows Update encountered an unknown error'.
I have trawled the internet, including Microsoft's own knowledge base, but all to no avail. I did find a small thread on a site entitled 'Eggheads' where people were having the same problem. From this site I followed a link to download a .NET Framework installation verification program, which I subsequently did, scanned it for potential viruses etc and then ran it. I was presented with a drop-down list of various versions of .NET Frameworks from which I chose 3.5 SP 1. It reported that the installation had an error but still left me in total confusion as to what this error was and how to rectify it.
I am running Windows Home Premium, 32 bit version.
Would be grateful for any help.
Many thanks,
Charlie Freeman

I would try running "sfc /scannow" on a comand line to see if there are corrupted files in your installation. You may have a Windows file that is corrupted and it could possibly be repaired. However, you may still have to uninstall .Net Framework SP1 and .Net Framework 3.5 and try to reinstall both again later... - Hi and thank you for your reply. I am beginning to tear my hair out with this one ..... I tried running sfc /scannow from a 'Run' command line and a DOS box flashed up on the screen for about a milli-second so I had no idea what was written in it. Tried it again and the same result. Opened up control panel and clicked on Programs and Features, then clicked Installed Updates, no mention of any .NET Frameworks there. So ..... I then followed a thread through to Microsoft where I opened a page to install the various versions of .NET Framework. I reckoned on starting at the beginning so installed Version 1.0, 1.0 SP3, 1.1, 1.1 SP1. All these installed successfully. Tried installing Version 2.0 and the pc informed me that I already had it installed as part of the Windows installation. I then tried Version 3.0, 3.0 SP1 and 3.5 but all to no avail. I then finally tried 3.5 SP1 just for luck and got the original error code. What is all this and why am I having so many problems? Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.
- I have this identical problem on Vista Ultimate x64. Just like you, I found little available online regarding this error. I have Visual Studio Pro 2008 and had VS 2005 prior to that. I also run express versions of SQL server 2005 and 2008 locally. All of these work in the manner which I use them at least, but .NET 3.5 SP1 just refuses to install.
Where did you find the tool to check the .NET installation? - Hi there, not sure off the top of my head but think I just Googled the error number with Microsoft......etc and found a forum where someone had posted a link, sorry I can't be more specific but have done so much relating to this lately that it's become a bit of a blur! Microsoft really could do with providing some answers to this.
- Hello Charlie,
Please perform the below steps,
Step1:-
Please download Windows Installer clean up utility from the below link,

Inside the window, you will see different installed versions of .NET Framework, but you should remove only that version for which you are receiving error code. (i.e. you should only remove .NET Framework 3.5 & its service packs package)Then, restart your computer & manually install the following updates in order
1) Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 package from the below link:

- Hi Pradeep and many thanks for your reply. Tried all the above steps - with the cleanup window all I could find listed was 1.0 and 1.1 installed, nothing else so I tried to download and install 3.5 and it came up with setup error right at the end so still no better - think I will just ignore it from now on.
- Hi Pradeep,
I found this article that you had responded to and found that I have the same scenario with my system. I cannot seem to install .NET Framework in any way described in your note.
I don't seem to be able to get this tool either, is it housed anywhere else?
Download the .Net Framework removal tools from the below link,
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/12/02/uninstall-microsoft-net-framework-with-aaron-stebner-cleanup-tool/
All of my installs run almost the whole way through andthen they end on 'setup error' and do not continue. Any other ideas I can try?
Many thanks
John - Hi Charlie,
Did you have any more luck since your last post here? I think I'm in the same place you were....
Let me know if anything progressed.
Many thanks

- Hi all,
I am not sure whether this is the right place to ask this "question". I had trouble uninstalling Ageia Physx driver (which came with a game) from my notebook, so I tried to use Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility because I was getting some network error to read from an msi file. But when I try to right click msicuu2 application and run it as administrator I got an error "ActiveX component can't create object: Scripting.FileSystemObject", with error code 800A01AD, source Microsoft VBscript runtime error. Please help or suggest where help can be found.
I am running Vista Home Premium with latest SP. - Dear All,
This solution helped me solve this issue on my Macbook + Vista Ultimate 32Bit.
Thanks Pradeep!
KR,
Anthony - Hi Pradeep,This WORKED! I followed the steps you outlined exactly. One important note to point out to everyone:On Step 1 - part 1 and 2 of step 1 will fail, but that is ok, continue to follow Pradeep's instructions including the secondreboot - and all will work perfectly. Thanks very much.Steve Deshaies

can anyone pls tell me how can i hv this resolved??? any help appreciated!!!
