Unanswered Question about XMPP federation with GMail chat

With testing in GMail chat I see that IM's from a Lync user overwrite the previous IM.  For instance rather than each new received IM starting a new line it will simply overwrite the previous message on the same line.  Has anyone noticed this?  IM's from GMail users to a Lync user work fine and do not have this behavior.  I also no longer get presence information for GMail users.  Gmail users do see presence for Lync users though.

XMPP chat was working flawlessly for several months, both chat and presense.  Then one day I noticed this.  Absolutely nothing has changed on my end.  Our Google Apps account for our domain still has google chat disabled.  Anything I can look at here?

    Hi,

Does the issue happen in GTalk client?

Does the gmail have the issue in the previous several months?

Maybe it is normal that the gmail chat new IM overwrite the previous IM.

I have not tested with the GTalk client.

This issue started happening about 3 months ago.  I noticed because I regularly chat with GMail users and all of the sudden they claimed that they weren't receiving my IM's.  Turns out they didn't notice my first IM in the session just kept getting updated on the same line.  This should not be normal as it essentially disables effective communication in every way.  I mean, the simple fact that if they send more than 5 IM's to me it completely pushes my first IM out of their window is enough.

same here, with embedded gmail chat client there's no presence information and each new chat ended with a carriage returns sent from lync always overwrites the same and only line in gchat: quite unusable.

with google talk client we don't have this problem. seems more a google issue?

spat3, that is somewhat reassuring to me.  I definitely think something changed on google's end.

I did not find any option about this issue in Gmail Options. I think it is a Gmail bug to integrate with MS Lync. You can try to install the lastest IE 9 version to verify if the issue occurs.

    Sean,
I already tried with a number of browsers, including IE9, and the issue still occurs.
    Does it work for you?

    Hi,

Out company has no XMPP gateway to integrate with Gmail. So I can not test it. But the Gmail chat to another Gmail works normally. I think it is Gmail bug because of commercial competition. Hope the google can fix it.

Same here!! VERY frustrating. Not really sure what happened. Restarted the XMPP service due to troubleshooting something else unrelated, and now I have this same situation. We had been using it successfully for well over a year! Any updates?

It seems I am no longer experiencing this issue. Whether it was on Google's end or a recent Lync update, in either case I am not experiencing the problem any more.
