I would say that the issue come from the load balancer. Can you test by not balancing the lyncdiscover https trafic?

Does the error message appear before you sign in ?
Does the issue happen for all users and mobile devices?
Does the issue happen for both internally and externally?
Please try to enable the logging on lync logging tool with SIPStack and S4 on device and start the logging reproduce the problem then get the detailed reports. Regarding how to enable logging on lync find the below url which will help
