Different web apps and CQWP

Hi
Got 2 different webapps (due to various reasons and the busíness needs maybe calling upon a third one) both have one site collection - also got a "common" Mysite in its own Webapp.
What options are there if I have to display e.g. news from Webapp1 on the Webapp2 and vice versa?

As per my experience, using web services is the most appropriate way. We can use object model as well but I assume, we need read-only, dynamically pulled
data.
