    Hello guys,

I'm getting this weird search result when I search for a document,

I'm getting a number "5" instead of the document title in the red box.....and of course, I want the document title displayed  instead......any ideas to fix this?

    Thanks

Probably the "5" is captured by sharepoint because the properties are set in the word document. The "title" of document is saved in metadata of the document. In word 2007, you can click the office icon -> prepare -> properties. Then you can see the real "title". It is different from the name of the doc file.
It's my guess, cannot see your picture very clearly. Hope helps.

    Hey David,

    thanks for the reply....

wow i didn't even think towards anything like that.....having it to do with word doc....i thought it was some backend sharepoint problem....

I have word 03, so I went to check the title by file -> properties-> summary-> title...

and that was exactly what was going on.....

so then....how do I make it so the saved document name is displayed instead of some word title property?

do i have to open some type of .aspx file like searchresults and modify that?

any guidance will be greatly appreciated....again , thx for that first input that was great!

I am not sure how to let sharepoint use the name of doc file as title. Maybe it's the default behaviour.

I am pretty a newbie and hope pros are coming to help us here. :)

    So

    it turns out that

the people who created the document in the first place probably named it "5"

and when they renamed it to whatever, the title property did not and does not update.....

i guess it's just something we have to make sure ppl do correctly....

so for now i think we're gonna stick with the "road without any customizations"

but for the discussion's sake, it would be interesting for me if we can still answer that question

to "how do I make it so the saved document name is displayed instead of some word title property?"

    and

thanks  David for clearing that out for me ....!!!

    Best,
