Why Belarc detects Windows 7 as Windows Vista?
- Hi,
I allways use Belarc Advisor to check what is inside a computer. This time found that the OS detected on the computer was "Windows Vista Ultimate (x64) (build 7000)". I've the 64-bits version running by the way.
I want to know if someone has seen the same information using Belarc Advisor or any other computer analizer tools.

- I have done several installs of Win 7 - every one shows up in the Belarc Advisor report as Vista - both 32 and 64 bit versions - both Ultimate and Home Premium installs.
- I'll add that Windows Home Server (in the Computers tab) also shows a Win7 client as being 'Windows Vista.'
At least Belarc shows the build number correctly for you, indicating (if you know that the 600x builds are Vista, and the 7xxx builds are Win7.)

By marking a post as Answered, or Helpful you help others find the answer faster.] - I noticed that also in Belarc, it is the same in Dell support center for my pc but SI software gives it as windows 7.
Claude - Have to remember that the Kernel is still 6.1 as it is with Vista. So it could be detecting the Core version and seeing that it matches that of Vista's and reports it as Vista and not Windows 7.
~Alex T.~Windows Desktop Experience MVP~ - Actually its more for compatibility than anything else. Too many programs look at the version number to run such as 6.x to run. if the version was 7000.00 than some titles would fail. Its in the registry.
