Frage Cannot delete video after viewing it in Windows Media Player 12

Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
Whenever I watch a video, say video "A", in WMP and then close WMP, I am unable to delete video A.
If I were to watch video "A" and then video "B" immediately after, then close WMP, I am able to delete video A but not Video B.
I have also noticed that after closing WMP, it is still visible in the task manager, under the processes tab. (Is this normal?)

When I say "unable to delete video", what happens is that another window pops up (the one you see when you copy files from one place to another, or when deleting files) and is permanently stuck on "preparing to delete" with the time remaining stuck on "calculating..."

How do I fix this problem?

    Thanks.

What file type?  Sounds like WMP isn't shutting down cleanly, which may be relevant to the content(?).

It's an AVI file but i think that is irrelevant. It also happens with other file types that WMP can open.
WMP not shutting down 'cleanly' , I believe, is a windows 7 feature where even though I close it, it will remain in the 'background' processes as such so that the next time I open it, it will open instantly (ie, <1/2 second).
That said, it may be due to me having 6GB of RAM available and that Windows 7 is taking advantage of it.

Knowing what file types cause the behavior would be illuminative.  Does it happen with audio only files?

What I've tested is avi, mp3 and mp4. So it also happens with video files. I don't know what other details to give. It's a few month old install of Win7 on a brand new computer...

Same thing happens here, 64 bit Windows 7 4Gb ram. Doesn't matter what file type, the last one wmp opens cannot be deleted/recycled/moved or renamed. It just gives a status bar saying "discovery items" which never completes.

@zachd, where have you disappeared to??? I appreciate people trying to help but so many helpers now ask detailed questions not only of the problem but also "why do you want to do xxx for" and give you a long lecture without answering the question.

Just an honest "I dont know the answer" would be better than drawing things out. [end of rant] Sorry @zachd, nothing personal just been visiting too many "help" forums, patrolled by draconian moderators and helpers
