    Hello,

I have Windows Vista on my computer. I have a virtual machine (Microsoft Virtual PC 2007) and I can't connect the internet using it. I hace checked some blogs dealing on this issue, but it didn't help.

    Can anybody help me?

What is the guest OS?  Open the vm's Settings.  What network adaptor is selected?

Where do I find the vm's settings?

Start VPC. If the VPC Console is not showing on your desktop, then it is minimized to the notification area on the right side of your Vista Taskbar. If it is minimized, right click on the VPC icon and select Show Virtual PC Console (the top item).

You will see your vm in the list in the VPC Console window. Highlight the vm. Click Settings.  Click on the Network Adaptor item and it will show you what adaptor you are using on the right.

I opened the settings and clicked on Networking. On the right I see:"Adapter1: Dell wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card"

    That's my laptop I think...

    What should I check?

First thing, from the VPC console, switch your Networking options for your virtual machine to use Shared Networking (NAT) instead of the host card.  Once done, restart the VM and see if you have internet access.

If that works, then your network setup is not assigning an IP address to the VM.

If all you need it internet access, then you're done.  If you need to access your host via the network or other local devices then you will need to troubleshoot the network.

I changed the network option to Shared Networking (NAT), I restarted the VM but didn't see any internet access.

How do I troubleshoot the network?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Have you updated your Virtual PC 2007 to the latest edition? If not, please install Virtual PC 2007 SP1 and see how it works.

If so, please install hotfix rollup package for Virtual PC 2007 Service Pack 1 and see how it works.

If issue persists, please let us know the following information:

    1. What is your guest system, Windows XP or Windows Vista?

    2. The detailed networking settings of your Virtual PC 2007.

    3. In your guest system, run “ping 127.0.0.1” in command prompt and let us know the result.

In addition, please refer to Fixing broken virtual networking and see if it can help you.

    Hope this helps.
