Server is running the standalone Hyper-V Server 2008 R2, Client system is running Windows 7 Ultimate.  The Windows 7 system is a domain member. The server is in the default workgroup. I can access the server using remote desktop, but can not access using the Hyper-V manager on the MMC. I tried adding the server to the domain but the task fails. When trying to use the manager, I get the following: You do not have the required permission to complete this task.  I tried using the procedure from John Howard's blog. It still will not connect.  Need help ASAP.  If we can not get this resolved, customer is going to scrap the Microsoft virtual solution and go to VMWare.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

You have to use the Authorization Manager for Hyper-v security :

From the Hyper-V Server R2 host, have you fully configured the networking with sconfig? Have you configured remote management? You say the machine won't join the domain. What error does it receive?

Finally, when you have networking fully configured, and can join the domain, if there are still problems, you should download HVRemote from codeplex.com and use the /show command to see if there are any further issues.
