Answered Public Folder Access (Exchange 2007) from Mobile Device

    Hi,

We use mail-enabled Public Folders at our software company for support queries eg Customer e-mails question into support@xyz.com and any of our support team can read/answer...
This works very well in Outlook on desktop.
Previously when we had Exchange 2003 we could access this Public Folder via a mobile device (using IMAP). Great for when we are on the road...
Exchange 2007 removed the ability to access the public folders via this method.

So the questions is how can we access our public folders from a mobile device (phone) - any Manufacturer / OS considered?
Alternatively is there any other way that is commonly used for this scenario (eg a newer Sharpoint release or some 3rd party app)?

The whole thing seems rather strange. Public Folders are being deprecated in favour of Sharepoint but even Microsoft's own documents say that Sharepoint is not the best solution for many scenarios. At the same time functionality has been dropped from Public Folders in scenarios that Sharepoint does not cover...

    Thanks in advance,

    Adam

Agree with you on Public folders. Not aware of any solution for SharePoint. Perhaps others here are? As to Public Folders on your mobile,
you'll have to use 3rd party software and check out what works best for you. Here are just some examples:

    CodeTwo Exchange Sync

Outlook Folder Sync for Exchange public folders and iPhones, BlackBerry, smartphones, pocket PCs, PDA handhelds

    Hi Jon-Alfred,

Thanks for your input and suggested 3rd party software solutions.

I will take a good look at them and see if they provide the solution we require.

From a (incredibly) brief look at them on the surface they seem to want to replicate the folder to the user folder and then read from there...
Are there any solutions that directly access the Exchange Server or has Microsoft not only not provided in-built client access but also cut off programmatic access to Public Folders for 3rd party developers?

    Regards,

    Adam
