Security Roles with PowerView?

    Question

  • I have SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012.

I have need to create Dashboards where certain AD users or groups have limited access to certain data on DashBoards.

All users in SharePoint would see dashboards, but what do you there is different.

    1) Is this functionality called Security Role in Analyses Services Multidimensional mode?

    2) Is this Security Role possible in PowerView?

  • Hi Kenny_I,

Security in Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services security is managed by using roles and permissions. Analysis Services administrators can create database roles, grant read or read/write permissions on Analysis Services objects for these roles, and then add Windows users and groups to the roles. In SSAS, we can define levels of security on the following objects:

    • Database
    • Data Source
    • Cube
    • Cell
    • Dimension
    • Attribute
    • Mining Structure
    • Mining Model

As far as I know, it is not supported to set security on the Power View report side. To achieve your goal, we have to set the security on the cube from which the Power View report retrieves data from.
