Why Is My Custom Task Showing "Task Failed To Load"?

    Question

  • I developed a custom task to wrap an old program.

    Running on dev machine via VS2012, works fine.

    Deployed to the server, and now it shows the above error during validation, even when I run it by right-clicking and selecting "Run Package"...

    What sort of troubleshooting steps am I looking for?

  • You have to give a little more details.... so many things that could go wrong.

    Here is a very basic example of a custom SSIS task:

    Without knowing what you need, I can only guess... Here's some code:

    Public Overrides Function Execute(connections As Connections,
    variableDispenser As VariableDispenser, componentEvents As
    IDTSComponentEvents, log As IDTSLogging, transaction As Object)
    As DTSExecResult

            Dim objApp = CreateObject("MyProgram")

            Try
                objApp.ExecuteSomeStuff()
            Finally
                objApp.Exit()
            End Try

            Return DTSExecResult.Success

        End Function

  • Have you tried running it out side Visual Studio on your development machine?

    Have you tried running it with an empty execute method (leave only the return success part)

    Which object are you creating? Is it something like CreateObject("Excel.Application")

    Currently, the task isn't even running right now... It's failing to load during validation. Am I correct in assuming that the code itself isn't even the issue here?

  • Hi Camron,

    Thank you for your question.

    I am trying to involve someone more familiar with this topic for a further look at this issue. Sometime delay might be expected from the job transferring. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Hi Camron,

    Could you please provide me with the below information?

    1. On the dev machine, does the package work fine by right-clicking and "Run package"? By the way, on dev machine, where do you run the package, from VS2012, SSISDB, or just right-click the "xxx.dtsx" file?

    2. Is the server where you deployed the package  another machine than dev machine? I guess they are two different machine, aren't they?

    3.Using the same windows account, if we open the SSIS project and run the package in VS2012 on "the server", could we run the package?

    4. Have you tired to "delay validation" of the whole package and your custom task?

    5 please enable SSIS logging for every events of every container. Where does the package fail, validation?
