Copy data from one member to another in an Analysis Services cube?

    Question

  • Is  there an inbuilt option (or programmatic approach) respectively add on tools available that allow users to copy data from member to another? E.g. Copy Scenario "Actual to "Forecast"?

    Thanks!

  • We can achieve this in many ways at DSV, Measure creation or just at calculations

    I am using Calculations step

    CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measure].[Forecase] as NULL;

    SCOPE ([Measures].[Forecast])

     this = [Measures].[Actual];

    END SCOPE;

    We can also refer Actuals directly to Forecast.

  • Thanks Prav! DO you know if that function can be run client side with the new MDX calculated member in Excel 2013?

  • Hi

    I am really not aware of Excel side, but it is best practice to have all the calculations at Cube rather than at client.

    1. If you apply this change at Excel, you may not get the same report using other front tool

    2. Doing all the data manipulations at cube becomes one point of source for any client tool

  • You want to assign a measure value to another calculated measure. You can use powerpivot which allows to create calculated measures.
