SAP WCF error System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format

    Question

  • I am attempting to send a ZORDERS05 IDOC message to SAP from BizTalk 2010.  The message stays dehydrated in the send port, and eventually gets suspended with the error: The adapter failed to transmit message going to send port "xxxx"

    Details:"System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
    Parameter name: format

Has anyone experienced or seen this error before?

    Thanks in Advance...

  • I finally figured it out.   I saved off the xml output of the ZORDRERS05 IDOC message in a log file and validated the XML using the ZORDRERS05 IDOC schema.  There was an issue in a segment with a field that was being populated conditionally.  If the field was not populated, then it was missing from the XML.

Short story: the error is trying to tell you that something is wrong with the IDOC XML, so try to validate the IDOC XML with the matching IDOC schema to determine the issue.
