Server 2003 32Bit blocking internet access for Windows 7 professional 64bit

    Question

  • Here is the scenario:

One wire is coming from the ISP router into the 5 port switch, one wire is going from switch to DNS windows Server 2003 for small business 32bit SP2, then one big 24 port switch is dividing the lines between all the computers, & then all the computers in the work place are connected to it.

All the machines that are running windows XP can access internet services without any problem. I installed two computers in our network with windows 7 Pro 64bit that I wanted to bring under the same domain as other computers. My windows 7 computers do not let me connect to internet but can connect to domain. I tried several blogs and tried flushdns, registerdns, release, renew nothing worked. In the network connection, it shows connected to internet, & shows packets are sent & received but I can't browse. I tried installing & uninstalling the antivirus, blocking the firewall. NOTHING WORKS!!!

Our primary DNS ip address for the server is 192.168.1.21 not letting me reach outside network. I can ping all the other computers within the network. I can even share files between them from Windows 7 PC. I can remote access to all the other computers but nothing outside the network. I tried pining www.google.com no response.

Now coming back to the first point, the wire that was coming from the main ISP router connected to the switch, I used one port of that switch to connect with a wifi router to see if that works & it did but then I am outside the network now & cannot share the files. It is working great to go online but I am in completely different network. My guess there is some kind of configuration need to be done in windows server 2003 32bit to allow internet access to 64bit OS. Please help & thanks in advance.

  • The wireless adapter on client is probably interfering. Please disable it, then run ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns. Also make sure the ISP's public DNS server addresses are proper as forwarders on 2003 server.

  • I have disabled the Wireless Network Connection and then added the details in Server 2003 as you have mentioned in the post & then on the client computer I ran ipconfig/flushdns & ipconfig/registerdns as administrator but no luck.

    It shows No Internet Access.

  • Please post an updated ipconfig /all of both. Forwarders correct? Internet working on server? Can you ping the gateway? ping 192.168.1.20? ping public dns addresses?

  • Internet is working on Server as so as all the other XP32bit machines installed in our workplace except two Windows 7 64 bit computers.

Client computers that are giving issues can ping all the computers within in the network as well as 192.168.1.20 but cannot ping the public dns addresses. I can ping public dns addresses from the other XP machines.

Forwarders are applied as you have mentioned in the above post but didn't solve the problem.

Thank you for working on this issue.

  • Ok, that all looks correct. What does nslookup from client return with? I'd make sure the network type is correct.

Also try turning off all firewalls for a test.

    Some other possibilities here.
