Unable to auto update records in DNS

    Question

  • i am manually creating the records in reverse lookup in the DNS of windows server 2012. and i am able to ping the server from the server from the client but unable to ping from server to client. need some suggestion

    for starting assure that no firewall is blocking ICMP protocol on each machine.

  • Hi,

    Firstly, did you ping the server using its name?

    If yes, I recommend you ping the IP address instead to have a try.

    If you cannot ping via IP address, please make sure that no firewall or other service is blocking the ICMP protocol on the client.

    If you can ping via IP address, it may be due to the DNS name resolution.

    You can run “ipconfig/displaydns” to view the DNS client resolver cache and make sure DNS update is enabled.
