Using the new VSS providers in Server 2012 for backing up Clustered Shared Volumes

    Question

  • Hi All

I have a server 2012 lab environment containing a two node cluster shared volume with some data on the shared volume. I am trying to use the use the new VSS providers to back the volume up, but unfortunately the VSS metadata for the Cluster volume provider is empty so it just backs up nothing.

Can anyone shed any light on this or refer me to any documentation specific to CSV that may help. I have tried searching for the information but am unable to find anything.

    Thanks

    Dean

  • Hi Dean,

    From this article:

Use Cluster Shared Volumes in a Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612868.aspx

It mentioned that "Volume-level backup of a CSV can be run from any node that connects to the CSV." So I would like to know the exact steps you try to perform the backup. Also please check if there is any error message occurs in Event.
