Bitlocker: How to read drive identifier from manage-bde

    Question

  • Hi there,

I'm trying to unlock a hard drive in the command line using the 48 digit recovery password:

    manage-bde -unlock c: -rp 0123456789...47

I have several encrypted disks and therefore several printouts of recovery keys, so I am unsure which recovery password to used --> no drive ID is shown, manage-bde -status was of no help.

When trying to unlock the hard drive from a Windows GUI I am presented with the first 8 digits of the drive identifier, which I can use to select the appropriate printout.

Is there really no other way than to first connect the drive on another system in the GUI, write down ID, go back to command line and then continue?

In other words: can the bitlocker drive ID be shown in command line manage-bde?

    Cheers, M
