Windows 8.1 Metro Start Menu

    Question

  • I am looking for a way to apply a customized Metro Start Menu layout to anyone who logs on to one specific machine, but still have that start menu editable by the user.

I have gone down this path here:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn467928.aspx

The idea is great, but it locks down the Metro Start Menu too much.

More what I'm looking for is a way to modify the Metro Start Menu for the default user, so it would apply that start menu the first time a user logged in, and it would retain that start menu from then on, but allow them the ability to customize it.

    Thoughts?

  • The PowerShell Cmdlets is what I ended up using. I found an outside article that broke down the commands.  I ran the 2 following commands from a PowerShell once I had the Metro Start Menu laid out the way I wanted:

export-startlayout -as bin -path <full path and file name to generate> -verbose

import-startlayout -layoutpath <full path and file name of config file> -mountpath c:\
