  • Hi,

You can check if Windows\System32\notepad still exists in your system. And if you have another similar system, I suggest you export the correct  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt from the system, then import it to your system for a test.

    Please refer to this link:

(Incorrect actions performed on registry can cause serious result, so, before any changes, please backup your registry first.)

  • Hi

This issue happen after you install Microsoft Office?

So means before that this issue not persist?

May I know whether you connect to specific domain or server? Maybe admin server set that you not allowed to put anything on your desktop

I suggest to try create new text document in different folder or partition to check

Also inform if you got specific error message

  • Hi,

    You can try this:

Check whether this key exists HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew\NullFile

If it doesn`t exist, create it. right click in the right hand pane of the ShellNew key,
and select New/String value, then type: NullFile

You can also run SFC /SCANNOW command to repair missing or corrupted system files.
