Why is replication optional?

    Question

  • Why did MS feel the need to make installing the replication objects optional?  These can't use that much disk space and are they actually doing anything if they are not used?

This is causing me tons of problems, because it is not installed on some of the servers I need to replicate too.

  • Hi Tom,

As your post, the replication is important in some scenarios, for example, replicating data in a server to server Environment or Synchronizing data between a server and client. However, everyone installing the SQL Server has its own purpose. Maybe his hardware is limited and he need to have a higher security. Microsoft design it to optional for meeting personal needs.

Thanks for your understanding and supports.
