XP mapping server 2008

    Question

  • I have installed a Linksys router AE4500 and using the DHCP in the router to assign IP addresses. The XP clients are losing mapping to the server 2008 std to the share directory and other directory's on the server. The client pings the server but need to reboot clients sometime more than once. The mapping was setup on each client from setup. This happened after the new router installed. No help from Cisco tech support

  • I am currently testing the XP client propriety software so wanted a quick fix for current clients. Sept. 21 I will be changing server to 2012 essentials for the 17 clients with an upgrade to the software by the developer. Cisco has just admitted that there could be a software glitch in the software that should be fixed soon. I did use a fresh install and it prompted me for a login and server name the error is : The local device name is already in use. This connection has not been restored. Any thoughts for quick fix.

server 2012 essentials is targeted largely for AD users who need an extra license or 2 for virtual machine use on a server cluster. Server 2012 standard allows only 2 free virtual machine licenses. The expensive datacenter license has unlimited virtual machines but it requires a license for each physical server.

  • Thanks for the comment I have updated to windows 7 and server 2012 and fixed the problem. My new problem is that backing up files with a zip compression the process is very slow..
