unknown user name or bad password

    Question

  • I am trying to capture a wim file. When i try to run a task sequence i am getting the following error:

Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. (Error: 0000052E; Source: Windows)

I know i am using the correct name, pwd and domain.....but still getting this error.

What am i missing? Thank you.

  • How are you trying to run the Sysprep and Capture Task Sequence (from WinPE or from Full OS and running LiteTouch.vbs)?  Are you able to map to the Deployment Share with the credentials you are using outside of the running Task Sequence?

  • mapping to deloyment share. running LiteTouch.vbs.

When i join the client to be captured to domain, i am not getting password error, but it just sits on Apply WinPE.

I think its failing in Apply WinPE. What can fail there?

  • There are a few things it could be... best to check your LTIApply.log if it's during Apply WinPE.  Have you seen this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2797676

Also, you can't Capture a machine that's joined to the domain... so that won't work anyway.

  • Thank you for the help. KB is for windows 8. I am trying to capture win7. Just stright task sequence. Where is the LTIApply.log? All i see is BDD, LiteTouch, Wizard, ZTIConfig, ZTIGAther, and ZTISetVariable.

    Thank you.

And what is stoping from capturing domain client? I though its not a good idea, but i should be able to?

  • Are you mapping the share with the same credentials as the script is trying to use?

Also are you mapping the share to drive letter Z?

Otherwise its going to puke due to trying to map the share with a 2nd set of credentials and failing since you already have a connection.

  • I am trying to map a drive to Z: with local credentials.

browsing to \scripting\litetouch.vbs. changing the path to save the wim file with \\IP Address\DeploymentShare$\captures

On the credentials screen enter local credentials on the deploymentshare box.

Still failing with unknows user name or bad password????

  • And what is stoping from capturing domain client? I though its not a good idea, but i should be able to?

This was a change in MDT 2012 (to LTISysprep specifically).  It does now check to see if the machine is in the Domain and then will stop the Capture if that's determined to be the case.

Post all your logs up if you could, I'll look through them all.  Also, what did you mean with "changing the path to save the wim file with \\IP Address\DeploymentShare$\captures"?

  • Where can i post the logs?

Or just copy and paste here?

  • Toss them onto SkyDrive and provide the link.  Makes it easier to download them and read them with CMTrace then trying to cut and post from the forum. : )

  • Please post your bdd.log as well.  Are you running LiteTouch.vbs as an admin?

  • Two questions:

    1. When you map to your deployment share, are you mapping as emblem\a-mfarber?
    2. Does your CustomSettings.ini and/or BootStrap.ini contain UserID / UserDomain / UserPassword?
