2008 (not R2) System State restore failed due to lack of disk space. Now SxS is HUGE

    Question

  • I did a system state restore in order to perform an authoritative backup in Active Directory. I used Backup Exec 2012 to perform the restore, as that's our backup system. The restoration wrote a LOT of data (including what I needed) but failed due to the 60G C drive being full. Before the restoration, I had 15G free. Now the disk is full, SXS is taking more space than ever (45Gig), and I can't clean it up because I'd already run compcln on the machine (months ago). What can I do in order to clean up my system partition now that SxS is holding on to more than ever of my disk. More disk, repartitioning, etc are not options. I can't use DISM because this is Server 2008 (not R2).

(Bold is to emphasize what people will automatically suggest to me).

Thanks for any insight you can provide.
