Creation of Disconnected WSUS

    Question

  • Hello,

I have been searching for an answer to the following question.

Do I have to create all the sub grouping from my Export wsus network server in my import wsus server?

    Example

    > XP_Pro

    > XP_pro_SP3

    > Win_7

    > Server_2008_R2

    > Server_2008

    >>Server_2008_x64

    >>Server_2008

    >>Server_2008_Database

    >Server_2003

    >>Server_2003_x64

    >>Server_2003_Database

I have imported my Meta Data and the content folder, but the folders created from the Export server do not exists on the import WSUS server. Suggestions?

  • More or less, yes. However, in fact, groups on the export server are functionally irrelevant. You don't need groups on the export server at all.

The only reason you approve updates on the export server is to trigger the download of the installation file. This approval can be issued for ANY group, so you might as well use "All Computers" and not even create groups on the export server.

You will need to create the group structure on the import server and issue approvals for the correct target groups. Group structures are not part of the export/import process, only update definitions and files are exported/imported.
