Key on DVD for Win2k12 doesn't work

    Question

  • I have three new copies of Win2k12 standard that I have tried loading on an HP Gen8 server. They keys - which I'm positive I'm typing the correct key(s) it came with - doesn't work. Did I somehow register the key and "use it"? Can you not load Win2k12 without a key then add the key over the next week or two?

  • Where did you get the DVDs?  Are they retail copies?  Sounds like it if you have a key.  You may want to talk with the vendor you purchased them from.

You could try the generic keys found here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx

Or, you can download the evaluation copy and install it.  It does not require a key to install, it contains the exact same capabilities as a purchased copy, and a key can be applied to it afterwards, giving you time to get things straightened out with your vendor.
