WinXP local resources not accessible while logged into Server 2102R2 domain
-
Sarver 2012 R2 - PDC
WinXP Pro SP3
I just moved from SBS2008 to 2012R2. I discovered that WinXP is not fully supported out-of-the box. I can join the domain from WinXP system but cannot load server printers. More importantly, access to the local resources is denied, e.g. C drive for program loads/updates, external USB backup drive. This WinXP system is a domain computer. I cannot migrate to Win7 based upon apps on these 2 systems.
I can logon as local administrator to get access to local resources. I had to modified security settings on the WinXP system to get access to "allusers" application data folder.
There has to be a hotfix to enable WinXP. Help is asked.

The problem with your XP computer seems to be local and not linked to your AD domain.
I would recommend asking them in Windows XP forum:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?category=windowsxpitpro&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc
Please do not forget that Windows XP end of support will be soon: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/endofsupport.aspx

Here is the causal trail:
- 2 WinXP SP3 systems were domain computers in SBS2008.
- All Win XP SP3 systems had total access to local resources and were local administrator for program updates under SBS2008 AD
- Migrated SBS2008 to 2012 R2 Standard
- Detached WinXP SP3 systems from SBS2008 domain into WORKGROUP
- All WinXP SP3 systems in administrator local account had full access to local resources
- Joined WinXP SP3 system to 2012 R2 domain.
- Logged into domain with account as administrator
- WinXP SP3 domain login could not add network printer, could not access external USB drive (access denied) and could not update or load programs existing on the C drive
- WinXP SP3 local administrator account can access USB drive and update/load programs
This problem only began when a working system joined the 2012 R2 domain. I do not think it is an XP issue. Your thoughts
