Does my SSAS Instance needs to be SQL 2012 for Power View and SharePoint 2010?

    Question

  • My current SharePoint 2010 SP1 Enterprise Farm is running the following BI Service Applications:

    • PowerPivot, (SSAS)
    • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
    • Performance Point

I have installed SQL 2012 SP1 CU4 SSRS and SSAS within my SharePoint 2010 Farm to allow for the execution of SSRS and PowerPivot workbooks - everything works perfectly. My current back-end SSAS data source is a SQL 2008R2.

We now have a requirement to introduce Power View to report on a multidimensional SSAS Cube which is also on SQL 2008 R2

My question is, does this SSAS instance have to be upgraded  to SQL 2012 SP1 CU4 to allow for Power View, or it is just the SharePoint integrated SSAS instance (installed within the SharePoint 2010 Farm) which needs to be SQL 2012 SP1 CU4?

There appears to be some compelling information out there!
