How to investigate why ping do not succeed .

    Question

  • I have two PC and those OS is win2012.(PC1, PC2)

I disabled firewall from control panel for all profile in both PC.

Both PC is connected by Wifi.

I could ping from PC2 to PC1 but could not ping from PC1 to PC2.

I disable/enable wifi adapter but still failed .

How could I  investigate why ping do not succeed further ?

  • Please run :

    ipconfig /all

in a cmd prompt on both of the machines and post the results. Also, are you pinging them using their hostnames or IP addresses? What reply are you receiving to the ping, request timed out or something else?

  • I would troubleshoot right from the Physical Layer to Application layer.

I mean I would check the cable, switches and network side I would check if both pc's are connected on the subnet.

  • Thank you.

    This is PC1 netstat -r. PC1 is 192.168.0.3, Wifi router is 192.168.0.1. PC2 is 192.168.0.40.

All network is connected by Wifi router. And I can ping from PC2 to PC1 and Wifi router.

I can ping from PC1 to Wifi router and other Wifi connected PC(PC3, 192.168.0.20).

I all specify by IP address.

  • So, PC2 is the only PC which you are not able to ping.

    Please proceed like the following:

    1. Disable temporary all security software on this PC (Better to do a clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us)
    2. Update the NIC driver of PC2

I would suspect that the issue is from the NIC driver as you are running Windows Server 2012 on a PC while this OS is not designated to run on it (It is difficult the find the correct drivers to use).
