SP2 changed the way custom fields are displayed

    Question

  •

    Hi,

We have recently installed SP2 to project pro 2010 & after this, I & my colleagues noticed that custom fields (using lookup tables) are displayed differently. By this I mean when we group & sort by custom fields the grouping headers display the custom field description from the lookup table rather than the field value.

I wondered if this was intentional or if it’s some sort of bug we have created in our own system somehow. If not is there a way to change this so that value is shown rather than description?

The only way I can think of is to swap the values & descriptions around in the lookup tables.

    Regards

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

I don't believe this is anything you did.  From 2003 to 2007 there was a change where the custom groups started displaying the values in the fields not the descriptions.  It appears as though it is now switched back.

  • Hi Julie,

    Thanks for the lead.

This is very annoying indeed, we will have to change all our lookup tables to swap value & description around.

    Thanks Microsoft :-(

  • You're welcome.  Folks had the same reaction when it changed from 2003 to 2007 and now back again.

Change the fields in the single file and then import the new list to other files.

  • Just a quick update: I notice if you remove the description project then uses values as group header
